Nutty Rice Salad

1 cook rice until it reaches desired texture, rinse in cold water, and set aside.
2 while rice is cooking, dice vegetables.
3 place slivered almonds under a broiler for 1 to 2 minutes, keeping a close eye on them so that they do not burn.  Remove nuts when they are lightly browned.
4 in a small bowl or cup, mix oil, vinegar, and soy sauce.   Add chives and spices, adjusting the salt and pepper to taste.  The recipe can take a generous portion of pepper.
5 toss all ingredients together and serve at room temperature.

- 1 cup basmati rice (or other favorite rice)
- 1 large tomato
- 1/2 avocado
- 1/3 cup slivered almonds (or cashew pieces)
- 1/3 cup fresh unrefined oil
- 4 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/3 cup chopped chives
- 3/8 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
